WOODWORKING

About Us

Hi there! We’re Kevin & Hannah Callen. We are from south Louisiana, but we have lived in the wonderful state of Texas since 2015. In July of 2017 we built our home in the DFW area! We are husband and wife co-owners of Kevin Seven Eleven Woodworking. We would love for you to get to know us and read our story of how Kevin Seven Eleven Woodworking became established!

Kevin and I met in New Orleans, LA at Tulane Medical Center in 2005. He was from the area, while I was from a small town south of Lafayette, LA. Kevin was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in 2002 at 17 years old. He fought his battle for 3 years. Then he relapsed. During that time he met me when I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2005 at 16 years old. We fought our battles together as friends at the time. After his relapse, Kevin later received a Bone Marrow Transplant from his brother at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and has been in remission ever since.

Later we re-united at a summer camp for children with cancer and we’ve been inseparable ever since. We were engaged in 2007 and moved to Lafayette together. There, Kevin went to college to begin a career in Nursing. After his graduation he worked in post-op at Lafayette General Medical Center for a short time before he was promoted to the Cancer Center there. Our journey continued when we were married in 2011. Our move to Dallas, TX began in 2015 when Kevin was recruited to the Bone Marrow Transplant department at Medical City Dallas. Now he works at Mary Crowley Cancer Research Center working with patients receiving research treatments.

Kevin Seven Eleven Woodworking began as an escape for Kevin to enjoy a hobby after long days in a career surrounded by heartbreak. He has a great sense of pride in watching patients that he’s helped along their journey. However, there is still a deep sense of grief that goes along with a career in that field; not everyone’s story ends the same. We know this better than most, as we are both Cancer Survivors of 11 years. While we overcame our journey, we stood alongside others that we loved whose story was very different from ours. Woodworking then became an outlet to escape from our everyday stress and turned into a passionate hobby for us. It was a chance to have fun together and show our creative side. One thing I discovered through all of this is that my husband is very talented; he has an imagination that runs wild on our projects!

While we specialize in a few areas that we love, we can do just about anything. We love custom orders and we believe that every piece we create should be its own and have its own unique character. A very large portion of our orders are custom/farmhouse furniture and décor. Kevin’s favorite project to work on is his custom flags! He makes the United States and Texas flags out of wood by hand and goes through a meticulous process of flame-staining and carving every star out by hand. And because we love to support our heroes, we enjoy customizing the flags by carving military branch emblems. We also enjoy personalizing the blue, red, and white stripes for policemen, firemen, and paramedics.
